Research in Design Thinking by STEM Education
SEED is a special summer camp program designed for primary 3 and 4 students, aimed at introducing them to the exciting world of design thinking through the use of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Taking place at the iconic PMQ venue, this immersive and engaging camp provides an opportunity for young learners to develop their creative problem-solving skills while exploring various disciplines such as architecture, music, programming, and product design.
The SEED summer camp is the result of a collaborative effort by a team of experienced professionals, including course designers, architects, musicians, programmers, and product designers. Together, they have curated a comprehensive curriculum that caters to the unique learning needs of over 100 students.
Throughout the camp, primary students are immersed in a series of hands-on activities that encourage the application of design thinking principles. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on empathy, guiding students to understand the needs and perspectives of others. They actively participate in community-based projects, collecting sound materials from their surroundings and engaging in the process of composing experimental songs.
By integrating music into the program, students explore the connections between sound, creativity, and emotional expression. This interdisciplinary approach enhances their understanding of design principles and encourages them to think creatively and innovatively.
In addition to music, the SEED summer camp introduces students to the fundamentals of product design. They learn how to conceptualize and develop ideas, creating prototypes using both traditional and modern techniques. Through practical design challenges, students gain hands-on experience in turning their ideas into tangible solutions.
Collaboration and communication skills are nurtured throughout the camp as students engage in group projects. These activities foster teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking, while also allowing students to develop a sense of community and mutual support.
At the culmination of the program, students showcase their learning and achievements by presenting their final projects. These projects demonstrate their ability to empathize, collect and utilize sound materials, compose experimental songs, and design innovative products. The SEED summer camp provides a platform for students to showcase their creativity, critical thinking abilities, and newfound design thinking skills.
Located at PMQ, a vibrant and creative hub, the camp creates an inspiring environment that fosters a love for learning and exploration. The unique setting encourages students to think outside the box and enables them to draw inspiration from the rich cultural and artistic surroundings.
SEED Summer Camp is designed to ignite a passion for design thinking, STEM, and creative problem-solving in primary 3 and 4 students. The program equips them with valuable skills and knowledge that will benefit their academic journey and future careers. By nurturing their creativity, empathy, and innovative mindset, the camp aims to empower students to become confident, forward-thinking individuals capable of making positive contributions to society.
